The new MLB season kicked off a week ago in Australia, with the Dodgers and Diamondbacks. The Dodgers took both games in the series, and the Dodgers now, two weeks later, have first place in the NL West. The Boston Red Sox have jumped out to the early lead in the AL East, but with an important few weeks coming up, they need to focus early and get a good push to be able to compete for the title again. The White Sox are in 2nd place in their division right now, tied with the Indians. After losing Avisial Garcia to a shoulder injury for the rest of the season on April 10th, many woes were heard through the Chicago dug out. That night with the Indians in town, all those woes were put aside. The Sox were down early after pitcher John Danks gave up two early runs, the Sox struck back and rallied to win the game 7-3 on the strength of two home runs from Jose Abreu, showing Chicago there is still young talent in the dugout.
This week, the Red Sox are in Chicago to play the White Sox. The White Sox took game one of the three game series on a walk off error by the first basemen. This makes it two games in a row the White Sox have won on walk-offs, the other coming on a home run by Alexei Ramirez. For more in sports, come back next week. This march has been one of the craziest we as sports fans have seen in a while. Not only has march madness been insane, but in the NBA, Lebron James and Kevin Durant have been going back and forth to see who can have the best game. Lebron scored 61, but Kevin Durant continues to put up 30 or more points per game. He has an active streak of 4 away games with at least 35 Points, 5 rebs, and 5 assists. This has never been done before by any player in history.
As for the NCAA, the tournament was crazy. Many brackets were messed up because of the first and second round disappointing losses by big teams. Duke went down to Mercer, Dayton beat Ohio State, and Oklahoma lost to North Dakota State. In the next round Villanova lost to UCONN, and Dayton won again to go to the sweet sixteen over Syracuse. Dayton is getting very high praise for these victories over powerful teams. Also in the upsets of the 2nd round, Stanford defeated number 2 Kansas in a match-up that was thought to be a blowout in the direction of Kansas, but Stanford pulled off the upset to the very end. Kentucky also took down the undefeated Shockers of Witchita State in the 2nd round. Although a lot of bad things have been said about the young guns of Kentucky, they are proving people wrong with two wins in the tournament already. This year in college basketball has for sure been the year of the upset. Come back next week for more. This blog page is specifically about the world of sports. You may comment on anything I post, but please refrain from using profanity, bashing my favorite teams, and most importantly do not make your team seem better than mine because I will always win the battle.
So this week in sports, for college basketball tonight the Texas A&M Aggies are playing LSU in a conference battle. TAMU beat LSU earlier in the year in College Station by 10. The Aggies are coming off of some nice wins in the last few weeks, when they beat Alabama 63-48, and they beat Tennessee 68-65 in overtime. These wins are building up their confidence to be able to roll through the rest of the regular season going into the SEC divisional tournament, and are hoping that they can win out to be at least on the bubble for the big March Madness Tournament. Although at the moment they aren't going to make the tournament, many think they can still make it as a bubble team. In the NBA Lebron James suffered a broken nose when they played Oklahoma City last week, and he wasn't able to play in Miami's win against the Bulls in Miami. Lebron is expected to make his return this Thursday against the New York Knicks in Miami. The Knicks have been getting a big push this year from small forward Carmelo Anthony, although the record doesn't show how well he has been. The eastern conference has been focused these last few years on the Heat and Pacers, but if the Knicks continue their trend of good play and get more players involved other than Carmelo, they have a shot at getting to the conference championship. That's all for now. Come back next week for more. |
